Sheep Meadow
Sheep Meadow - Central Park Highlights
The park’s largest lawn without ball fields, is a 15-acres open green, it was originally the home to a flock of sheep from 1864 until 1934. Sheep Meadow with a sheep pasturing or grazing around was intended to give to the visitors a taste of rural pastoral landscape away from a buzzing city center.

The sheep and shepherd were housed in a fanciful Victorian buiding nearby, what became the famous Tavern on the Green restauran in 1934.
