The bridge was initially built in 1874, made of combination of wood and cast iron railings but later wear out and replace due to deterioration.

The stone arch bridge that stands in Central Park today constructed in 1896, and designed by Howard & Caudwell, and made of “Manhattan schist” ignious rocks found within Central Park area.
